The Role of Resource Teacher

Strathmillan School Resource Program

Strathmillan School is proud to offer a comprehension resource program.  We have three resource teachers.  We are also known as SNITs (Special Needs Integration Teachers). Shirley Bender and Andrea Morphy work full time.  Celia Plett works 70%.  Twenty percent of her time is as a reading recovery teacher. Each year we divide our responsibility by classroom and/or grade level.  This year the division is as follows:

Shirley Bender- kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2 and case manager for students with special needs in the primary multiage programs.

Celia Plett - grade 3 and resource support for the primary multiage programs

Andrea Morphy - grades 4 and 5

To complement our resource program, Strathmillan School also offers other services.  Our school has many educational assistants.  Almost each classroom has one (or more) educational assistants!  We also have a guidance counsellor who works 70% at our school.  Through Educational Support Services (ESS) we can also access supports from the following clinicians:

Speech and Language Clinician (Jenn Allan)
Social Worker (Suzie Preteau)
Occupational Therapist (Monica Desgagnes)
Physiotherapist (Carol Fraser)
Psychologist (Maria Phelps)
Psychiatrist (Dr. Young)
Consultant for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Karen Graham)

If you would like more information on our school's resource program, please feel free to contact Shirley, Andrea or Celia at the school.

Morphy's Musings
The whole object of education is...to develop the mind. The mind should be a thing that works.

Swim Program
We swim on Monday and Wednesday afternoons at the Civic Centre. The bus will leave Strathmillan at 1:00 and we will back to school by 2:30.
Classroom Profiling
All classroom profile meetings at the grade 4/5 level are complete. This was valuable time spent looking at how the school team can better meet the needs of all students.
